Fashion Inspiration: Winter in Twin Peaks

If you are in Missoula you may (or may not) know Missoula's Community Theater, The Roxy, has been showing two episodes of the television series Twin Peaks every Monday starting at 7 p.m.

Carlo's One Night Stand thinks this is an awesome idea. It's one of our favorite television series of all time. We also love that the theater sells coffee, pie, and doughnuts during the showings so you can feel like you're in Twin Peaks while you're watching Twin Peaks.

Then, Carlo's found, via the interwebs, a clothing line inspired by Twin Peaks. Suckers Apparel has fashioned some lovely and amazing pieces based on some of our favorite Twin Peaks characters.

Carlo's was so excited by these damn fine Twin Peaks events, we put together our own favorite winter styles inspired by the surreal series. In case you're looking for something to keep you warm and fashionable, come see if you can find something your favorite character would wear. You can keep cozy in one of our "Log Lady" sweaters, look sharp in a "Special Agent Cooper" suit, or rent a full costume for the next showing of Twin Peaks at The Roxy.

Take a look at what we put together:

Falling Go Lightly

Oh, fall. We love you.
Fall weather is crisp, golden, and delicious here in Missoula, MT. Well, usually. Right now, the fall weather is a little soggy. We've been having rainy mornings, cool drizzly nights, and afternoons where the mountains lit up from the setting sun sit contrasted against dark rainclouds. Our forecast doesn't look like it's going to change too soon, either. But, even with all the puddles around, it's still a Missoula fall.

The leaves are ready for changing, the apples are ready for pies, and the sweaters are ready for wearing. Sweaters in golden yellow, plaids, and paisley, deep hand-knit wools, chunky cowl necks, and retro styles are grabbing our attention. And those are just the styles we've seen by watching the passers-by from our 3rd Street window.
Even bunnies like fall sweaters.

In honor of fall sweaters, and because the spookiest of holidays is almost here, Carlo's is having a fall sale. We've filled our outside racks with sweaters, coats, and jackets and we're marking down the price.

Take $5 or $10 off the marked price from everything outside. The prices vary, so the best thing to do is to come over and see what deals you can score.

You can get a glimpse of our sweaters and jackets at our Facebook page. We've posted some of our favorite finds from our sale racks. We've have more jackets, sweaters, cardigans, and capes inside our store just waiting for you.

Fashion Inspiration: The Summer Picnic and A Summer Sale

A Game of UNO on a picnic blanket is most excellent.
Kid Carlo has always loved picnics. Ever since he was old enough to gather his favorite stuffed animals and dress them in matching sailor suits and slap together a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich he's gone on picnics. Now that he's older the friends and food are a little more varied, but the simplicity of a picnic, and his love for them, are still the same.

It's finally the time for picnics in Carlo's little corner of Missoula, MT. The weather is perfect and the days are longer (making dinner/night picnics more user friendly). Also, dappled light on picnic blankets makes for some fantastic impromptu photo shoots, so Kid Carlo has been setting out his picnic wardrobe. Card games and long chats are almost always better played or had on a blanket in the grass.

Hawaiian Print Shirts grow on trees at Carlo's
Even as a wee sprout, Carlo had fashion in mind. Sitting on a picnic blanket in his youth, he was inspired by lady bugs in their bright red jackets and  butterflies in their fluttery yellow dresses. He loved the simplicity of the Hawaiian print shirt and outrageous matching Bermuda shorts. Cotton dresses of the 50s and early 60s in happy pastels made his young heart skip a beat, and to this day have a place on his picnic blanket. Carlo's other favorite picnic fashions  include Indian saris in any color, short sleeve shirts in bright African prints, and costumes. He particularly likes setting up a picnic then dressing up like his favorite character from his favorite novel. These fashions make him feel good, and feeling good is what a picnic is all about.

As far as picnic food goes, Carlo still likes the Peanut Butter Jelly sandwich of his youth, but he also has some "grown up" favorites: light carrot salads, tomato and cucumber salads, and anything sweet. Sweet tea and lemonade are the perfect drinks. Muddle a little mint in your glass and sip contentedly knowing that not only are you enjoying life and feeling fine, but looking fine too.

All Summer Shirts are $5 off the Marked Price, Hooray!

In honor of the picnic season, Carlo is having a summer shirt sale. All of Kid Carlo's fabulous summer shirts, from Hawaiian print to short sleeved western pearl snap button shirts, are $5 off the marked price. If you're out and about looking for some good deals on awesome summer shirts or searching for a splash of vintage to wear at your own picnic, stop by and see what we have for you.

In the meantime, please do enjoy this little video of some Carlo's customers having a picnic in the park.

Fashion Inspiration: Spring Flowers

Lots of People Love Flower Crowns
The weather is getting warmer, the sun is shining more, color is exploding every where, and we at Carlo's One Night Stand are finding Fashion Inspiration among the Spring Flowers of Montana.

There are so many flowers popping out of the ground it's difficult to pick just one flower from which to gather inspiration. There are bright tulips, delightful daffodils, delicate woodland prairie stars, and passionately purple larkspurs. The mountains surrounding Missoula Valley are covered in wildflowers of all shapes, sizes, and colors. So, we choose to be inspired by all the flowers.

Inspired by these bursts of color, Carlo has been running around the store plucking dresses, scarves and purses in varrying arrangements of flowers and beautiful spring colors.

Here, pink chiffon and light pink roses bloom on an asymmetrical knee-length dress, pink roses and small green leaves climb over a scalloped-neck tea-dress, tulips pattern a navy blue and red ankle-length dress, and sheer teal becomes the perfect backdrop for pink and yellow flowers on a vintage Gunne-Saxe dress. We are also finding roses, daises, and small greening things sprouting on our collection of spring scarves and even on some hand bags and purses.

What do you love to wear in the Spring? Do you have a favorite fashion, dress, shirt, or skirt that you love to wear in the warmer Spring months?

Headbands and crowns made entirely of spring flowers are some other things Carlo has been wild for this spring. Maybe you can make your own flower head dress from the flowers in your area. Maybe you can come in to Carlo's One Night Stand and find a lovely spring flower crown for your very own. Our Spring dresses will be in bloom for a long time too. So, stop by and see the lovelies.

Fashion First Friday Success

Our latest Fashion First Friday event was a seventies success. Our theme was Disco Fever and we celebrated a time of plaid polyester pants and white polyester jackets. The 70s Disco was a period of Farrah Fawcett, dance music, feather bangs, and gold chains, all of which we rocked on May 3. The Bee Gees was our fashion theme music and everyone who came in caught the fever.

Here are a few photos of those who were staying alive during Fashion First Friday: Disco Fever.

Come in next first Friday, June 7 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., for another photo booth session when we salute Robin Hood and pay tribute to the Knights who say Ni.

All of our Fashion First Friday events are free and open to the public. Carlo chooses a costume photo booth theme each event. Costumes for the event are provided and customers get their photo taken at no charged. Carlo then emails photos to participants.
